The Props Dept X Hong Kong Timberbank

We love our community in Yuen Long and there is no surprise that the first friend we would collaborate with is Hong Kong Timberbank, eco-friendly wood factory that only works with Hong Kong local wood.

We paid a visit to Ricci, owner of Hong Kong Timberbank who is an architect and a dreamer. Couple years ago, he found out a miserable truth about all the trees that fell during typhoon - they were all dumped in the landfill. No recycling nor up-cycling policies could have saved them so Ricci decided that he could possibly help.

In Ricci’s factory in Yuen Long, there is a team of designer, carpenters, craftsmen working on saving every little piece of wood. They collect all the trees that fell from natural cause in Hong Kong. Dry them in a huge tunnel that cost millions. Cut and polish them without disrupting the natural beauty of each wood. The wood is made in different products: coasters, tables, chairs… you name it!

Among all the products they made, there was not a serving or chopping board with a handle! We decided to add a leather handle for each serving board so you can easily lift it up or hang it. Details matter!The wooden board is made with the wood of acacia tree found after typhoon in Tai Po, The New Territories. The wood was supposed to be dumped or burned into ashes. But Hong Kong Timberbank gave the natural treasure a new life. The wood was polished, dried and cut professionally in Yuen Long. The Props Dept handpicked the wood and accessories the board with a handmade leather handle so you can pick up the board easily. We retain the natural form of the wood so every piece is unique. 

We admire up-cycling and craftsmanship, hence, we asked our neighbour Hong Kong Timberbank to create one and only products for this collaboration.
